My author, Kate Henderson of Striking Strip Quilts, approved my request to make one of her projects from her book. I can’t wait to get started.

There are 16 projects to choose from and I like quite a few of them. I’ve narrowed it down to Mosaic, Summer Holiday, and Planets.

I choose Mosaic, cute and scrappy.

I choose Mosaic.

DAY 1

Decisions. Decisions. Kate makes it easy to change your size, so I like that. Mosaic calls for 6 blocks down and 6 blocks across for a total of 36 blocks. I will be making mine 5 blocks down and 5 blocks across for a total of 25 blocks.

I changed from picking out 5 fabrics to 25 fabrics.

Another decision. I was originally going to use 5 fabrics to make 5 blocks from each fabric. But, I changed my mind because the fabrics that I was going to use are all large florals, and the pieces are too small for large florals.  I like the scrappy look that Kate did with all different colors, so I start picking out 25 fabrics.

It took me longer than I probably should have taken. Then I start to hear Kate in my head…”Don’t overthink it.” Ok, ok…done…I’m not switching anything, anymore.

All of my 25 colors are cut.

DAY 2
I spent a very lovely afternoon with my quilt friends, my best buddies ever, and cut all of my 25 colors. I still have my background cream to cut, so I’m half-way done. What is it about looking at your fabrics all cut up, and ready to be put back together? The excitement makes you speechless!

My favorites...a Cardinals ballgame and sewing.

DAY 3
I would have to say one of my favorite things to do is easily watching a good Cardinals ballgame and hanging out in my sewing room.

So, today I’m continuing with my cutting. The background that I’m using is Rustic Weave by Moda, in cream.

1st mistake...darn it!

Test block done...beautiful!

But, before I do a mass cutting, I always make up one test block. So, I cut the pieces for one block and start sewing.

Ok, 1st mistake. I thought I was doing so good…well, just the reason why I always do a test block. It gives me an idea of what to watch out for.

Rip-out’s not too bad…test block done…beautiful!

This is Blog 1 of 3, to be continued…

Until next time…enjoy your day…ttyl!
