Striking Strip Quilts by Kate Henderson
Some of you who know me, know that I’m the one who walks into a quilt shop and goes straight to the coordinates. I already know that they match.
That being said, I had a tough week.
I decided that I didn’t like my colors. I had a few coordinates, but I had to put in some others. And, I already had them all cut out.
Originally, I thought that there were only 2 or 3 that I didn’t like, and I started to analyze my fabric choices. I know, I know…Kate told me not to do that, but I did…I couldn’t help it.
As time was flying by and I was slowing myself down, I made some choices:
- I liked the fabrics with white in them. I pulled out the fabrics without white.
- I liked the fabrics with two colors. I pulled out the fabrics with 3 or more colors.
- I downsized the quilt to 16 blocks, originally 25 blocks.
- I pulled out the dark blue.
Because I have a Fashion Design degree and not an Art degree, I have to rely on that red flag feeling when it comes to color. I wasn’t standing in the art line when God gave out that talent. I was standing in the sewing line. Thank goodness I have been able to find some people who were standing in the art line.
I ended up pulling out nine colors, replaced a couple, and started to sew. With the color challenge behind me, I was able to happily continue on.
Kate’s quilt design is adorable, her directions are easy to understand and it’s coming together beautifully. I like that a lot.
I finished the quilt top. I’m ready to layer it and start my hand-quilting. Yay!
This is Blog 2 of 3, to be continued…
